Trauma-Focused Therapy

When we’ve experienced trauma, it’s essential to receive care that truly meets us where we are. Too often, therapy stays on the surface and misses the deeper wounds left by complex trauma and other overwhelming experiences. Even years after the events, our minds and bodies may still feel stuck in the past.

I specialize in working with trauma, complex PTSD, dissociation, and self-harm. The modalities I use—such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and somatic therapies—are designed to address these experiences in a way that’s both structured and deeply compassionate.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: healing is possible. You don’t need to explain everything perfectly. You don’t need to carry it alone. I’ll meet you where you are, and we’ll go from there—step by step.

Internal Family Systems and EMDR

Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are two powerful, evidence-based approaches to trauma therapy.

IFS helps us understand ourselves as a system of “parts”—each with its own feelings, beliefs, and role. Rather than judging or pushing parts away, we learn to listen to them with curiosity and compassion. Over time, this process helps us build a more unified and empowered sense of self.

EMDR is a structured, experiential therapy that uses bilateral stimulation—often through eye movements—to process and desensitize traumatic memories. It helps the brain “re-file” distressing experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional charge.

Used together or separately, IFS and EMDR provide deeper access to healing than traditional talk therapy alone.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine has received growing attention for its therapeutic benefits in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, and addiction. In a psychotherapy setting, it can support deeper emotional processing and open access to insights that may be harder to reach otherwise.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) differs from clinic-based ketamine treatment in several key ways. I offer oral lozenge (sublingual) administration at carefully calibrated doses that allow you to remain conscious, present, and engaged in therapy throughout the session.

KAP sessions typically last around two hours, providing space for deeper exploration, especially around stuck or painful emotions. My role is to support you through the experience—helping you process whatever arises and integrate the material meaningfully in follow-up sessions.

About Elliott

Elliott Blitenthal is a trauma-focused therapist with a deep commitment to helping clients heal from anxiety, complex PTSD, dissociation, and the effects of overwhelming life experiences. Drawing on modalities like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, Elliott offers an integrative approach that honors the mind-body connection and the complexity of each person’s inner world.

Elliott’s path to becoming a therapist began through his own healing work in early adulthood, which opened his eyes to the depth of the psyche and the power of attuned presence. As both a clinician and a fellow traveler, he brings curiosity, compassion, and an ability to sit with the unspeakable. His work is grounded not just in technique, but in a belief that even the most fractured parts of us carry purpose, dignity, and the potential for transformation.

With a background steeped in philosophical and spiritual inquiry, Elliott holds space for questions of meaning, identity, and soul. He believes that healing is not about becoming someone else, but about remembering who we already are—beneath the pain, and through it.
